Sportsman Show

We traditionally go to the Sportsman Show. The kids like the free stuff, the birds of prey show and the big machines. This time, though, Kelden's favorite was the Fan Expo. It was almost like going to Disneyland. He got to "fly" in the Millenium Falcon and take pictures with Star Wars characters.

These last two are not the same. Kelden knew the difference, not me. Just like there were also Star Trek stuff but Keld had to tell me because I didn't recognize them, having never watch the show or movies.

But I recognized Grendizer (although in French we call him Goldorak) while Keld didn't have a clue who he was. I'm not sure if it's because I'm older than Keld or if Goldorak was more popular where I grew up.

I also recognized one of the three famous people that were there for autographs and pictures, although I didn't know his name. I knew he was Canadian and could name one show in which he has appeared (that wasn't the show he was promoting, of course!). I didn't wait in line for the autograph or the photo booth, but I did take a picture so I could check back home and see if I was right (I was, and I found his name, but since it's definitely not a major piece of information my mind has already forgotten it, it's Kris something-something),

The next day at Church, as I was looking back for some reason, I saw that one of the other two famous people of the Fan Expo was seating with the missionaries! I did recognize him at that time, he is the writer of Captain Canuck.
Anyway, as you might have guessed by now, the FanExpo was all about superheroes.

Julia wanted to take pictures of the girl superheroes but they are so inappropriately dressed...Zack, on the other hand, didn't want to have anything to do with the heroes. I think he was scared of the bad guys, maybe especially this one:

So he decided to go with Keld, fall down the stairs and look like a real bad guy without having to put a mask or make up on.. Oh la la. It hurt and it shows.

It's a good thing the staff knows me at the school. The moms bringing their oldest kids for this first week might wonder about me though. I do try to blame it on Keld who has actually won a prize from one of the draws at the sportsman show. It's a BBQ camo apron.

So now, he doesn't need a birthday gift, right?

Spring

It's been officially spring for a while now. We should be able to go outside, so we do.

But of course, it's still wet and cold. It was even snowing yesterday when we went to the park.

So we still play inside lots.

We're into castles right now...

House-sitting Adventures

We are back with the dogs for the afternoon and I thought I would post pictures of our latest house-sitting adventures. We are more pet-sitters than house-sitters, but we did get to fix a leak in the basement (by we, of course, I mean Keld and his helpers).

We are here to watch the animals but the kids like watching the big screens better.

Even with a big screen, we were not able to spot the family at conference. Marley wasn't looking, he was trying to enjoy our traditions.

Of course, I don't turn the TV on for Zack during the day. (He did figure out how to do it himself in the end, so I let him watch a couple of days for his birthday). He tried to play outside, but it wasn't all melted yet (still isn't, still snowing actually).

He wore that Jake wig a lot. A pirate for the parrots, I guess.

We also walked to get Julia and Kelden everyday. Kelden was so happy to finally see some grass!

All those adventures are really tiring...

Maybe next time it's nice enough we can take the dogs for good walks!

Happy Birthday Zack !

Zack didn't want to celebrate his birthday without Special. He said she would be upset, I wonder if he thought there might be no cake without her. So today as scheduled we prepared for a party and at lunch he said that he actually didn't want Special to come, he could open gifts without her!

The party really started when Aunt Ashley and the cousins came.

He got his gift from them almost right away, which was good because then he was able to wear it for the pictures!

Grandpa Bruce, Special and the cakes came too.

Uncle Jeff made it too!

And Zack got to open more gifts !

He now has to share his birthday with his cousin Ted.

There are just four years apart (minus a few hours).

He Is Risen

One of my sisters was telling me this week that Easter was right on time for us this year. We do need to remember that this life is not the end and that we will all resurrect. We can be with our family together, if we do what's right. My mother traditionally makes an Easter tree for this season, a tree of life I guess. She did it with my sisters and her grand-kids in Switzerland this year.

We had our Easter feast on Good Friday. That way we would have easy leftovers for conference week-end (instead of cooking during sessions). Keld had the menu all planned out and, of course, wanted to be chef. I didn't mind (I find it even harder to cook in someone else's kitchen).

I helped, of course, especially with dessert, another tradition: the Easter nest.

And voilà:

A little walk to digest..

We had our Easter egg hunt this morning. They all look tired because they really are tired (especially this week!).

Happy Easter !
