Learn at Home (Week 1)

As soon as March break was over, the kids wanted to start school. I emailed their teachers to know where the were at. The boys' teachers wrote me back immediately with ideas of what to study, what themes they were working on, what subjects they still had to learn, etc. Julia's teacher just referred me to the website the Ontario government had set up for the occasion (which, of course, I had already checked but it's full of everything for everyone, so it's easier when you know what to look for). Anyway, I went over the grade 8th curriculum and Julia told me what she hadn't learnt yet in maths and science and we made our list of what to study ourselves.

I only did maths and science because we do dictées for French and lots of reading for English and French.

Kelden doesn't like dictées, but I'm definitely taking advantage of this time to teach them to write properly. He does love reading (the picture is misleading, his face is about what he is reading). And he likes that he gets to choose what to work on during the day and how much to get done. He's been working on a newspaper article about an UFO sighting in Timmins.

Julia's art teacher sent a list of youtube tutorials and so Julia does lots of drawings. This semester she also has "food class" so I am making her help with menus and cooking :)

Last week, Zack chose to learn about money and counting. This week, he's working on a little story. He said he had no idea for a story so I gave him some. But he didn't like any of them. He's now working on a story that I hope he wouldn't write for school..

Otherwise, recess can be outside with Ryan and Rocky who love having them home all day !

And we still rest on the week-end. Saturday was sunny so we were outside (still on our property though).

Today, they announced that the schools will remain closed until at least May 4th. Starting next week, the boys should receive 5 hours of work per week and Julia 10.  A bit more intensive...
