Ski: Week One or Ski: Last Week

Julia and Kelden finished one week of skiing. They were doing pretty good. After Julia, Kelden was ready for the chairlift.

Zack and I can't follow them any more...

We wait for them inside or at the end of the "hill."

They are going faster now, although Kelden is faster by far.

I don't think he fell because he was going too fast but he fell. Zack and I were having fun inside until we saw Keld lifting Kelden off the snow machine.

We found them in the ski patrol's chalet.

They told us they didn't think anything was broken but we went to the hospital to check and the doctor said: "He's broken it and it's good. Want to see the X-rays?"

We waited to see if an operation was needed, but when the other doctor came, he said it was best not to operate so we went home with a new Kelden.

He got the fiber glass cast put on this morning. He chose the glow-in-the-dark color.

They wouldn't give him crutches, they say he's too small and therefore needs a wheelchair. This would be useless in our house obviously, so we'll see if we need to get one for school. Kelden won't start Monday morning since he has another hospital appointment. The next appointment was already scheduled because previous X-rays had shown a swelling in the ankle (yes, the right ankle) so we'll combine the two problems.

Christmas Day

Julia woke up at 3 on Christmas Day. We made her wait until 6.

They brought most of what they got to Special and Grandpa Bruce's where we spent the day.

They had invited a few people but for some reason I don't have pictures of them all.

The elders were there too and got to Skype with their families.

I haven't been with family for Christmas for 14 years now. Last Christmas with all my siblings was 18 years ago, which means I have had more Christmases without them. I wonder if my brother actually remembers what it is to be with all your sisters for Christmas...

Christmas Eve

We went to Special and Grandpa Bruce's for Christmas Eve. Zack had fun with the guests.

We had our traditional Nativity play.

And our new tradition of playing the bells.

We had a good time.

Ready for next year.

Hayes Christmas Supper

We had a potluck supper on Tuesday with Special's side of the family. Some of them we don't see as often as others.

The kids had fun in the Church gym.

The boys were a little crazy.

But Aunt Tina was as well...

And before separating, we had a little competition...

Julia won !

Ski

Julia and Kelden started skiing this week. They had their first lesson on Monday. There was only one instructor for the two of them, so Keld helped.

As with anything, Julia is very nervous but she is overcoming her fears. She was scared of the chairlift, so scared that the instructor was going to call someone on a snowmachine, but I had sent Keld to find her and take pictures, so he helped her (but didn't take pictures...).

If you know Kelden, you know he doesn't give up. We love this attitude and it is helping him this week. He didn't get to go on the chairlift today because he's not good enough yet, but he tries and tries and tries again, so hopefully some time this week he'll get it !

Skiing is not easy but they seem to be having fun, so that's what matters !

And here are some videos for Dave.

They are not as good as their cousins...not yet...

The Saturday Before Christmas

We had two Christmas parties last Saturday. One was for the City of Timmins' employees, well, for their kids especially, and one was at the Church. The party for the City was at the Mac as usual but it was our first time because they usually do it on a Sunday. We knew Santa was coming, I didn't think he was skating too!

At the Church they started with some crafts.

There were songs, stories and bells.

I liked the reindeer dance. I tried to tell Linda to stop giggling in my background, but she wouldn't, so, sorry if you don't hear Special very well..

At the end, Santa came (again).

Ho Ho Ho

School Christmas Concert

Yesterday was the school's Christmas concert. Kelden was proud to sing his dad's favorite French Christmas song.

Julia was stressed, but she did all right.

Next year, Zack will be in it too...

He's been practicing !
