Halloween Pumpkins

We carved our pumpkins for our Family Home Evening activity last night. When I say we, I really mean Keld. Although Julia and I did do 99% of Zack's pumpkin and helped on Julia's.

The boys just watched and chose the background music.

This year, the pumpkins match the costumes.

They aren't perfect, but I think as long as you can recognize who it is, we're good!

But you can tell why I chose the (supposedly easy) R2D2 and left the others to Keld...

Halloween Ward Party

Yesterday was our Halloween ward party. Like Aunt Tina said, it was pretty chaotic but the kids had lots of fun.
Of course, Julia went as Elsa...

...and she found Olaf !

This year, Kelden wanted to be a jedi.

After making all the Elsa costumes, Special still found time and sewing energy to make him a nice big robe and he looked just like Obi Wan Kenobi.

Zack also wanted to be someone from Star Wars, like his brother, so we made him an R2D2 costume. I think that if I had had Halloween growing up, the fun would have been in the making of the costumes. Trying to be as creative as possible so as to spend as little as possible but also to have fun in the process.

Since we had two kids going as Star Wars characters, I thought we should make it a family theme. I tried to convince Julia to be Yoda but she declined. Keld didn't mind the Star Wars idea and so we went as Princess Leia and Han Solo.

Thank you Auntie Becca for doing my hair! Han Solo wasn't frozen, but he was mummified...

I thought that the ideas for the games and the Haunted House were pretty good.

It was a great start to the Halloween activities ! Next, pumpkin carving...

Skating

This year, since Zack doesn't take regular naps any more, he and I can enjoy the free skating hours.

The City also gets some hours for its employees and some are not on Sundays! So we went last Saturday. Zack was excited to go with his dad.

Julia showed us that she remembered how to skate:

Kelden, on the other hand, seemed to have completely forgotten...

But we were still very impressed because he did not give up! He would get up as fast as he had fallen. Twice he said he was going to take a break but he didn't. He stayed the whole hour trying and trying and trying again. We were very proud !!

Even the other people skating were proud of him. Yes, the pictures can be deceiving but there was another family there. And the mom kindly volunteered to take a family picture for us.

I'm sure next time I won't have to hold Kelden!

Thankful for Sawyer !!

Since Sawyer's birthday this year is on Canadian Thanksgiving we were all together to sing for her.

I lost everything that was on my computer today so I can't post the picture I was going to share of our Thanksgiving meal (we had it last Saturday)...

Fortunately, we bought the computer that crashed after the trip to Disney, so I do have pictures of the birthday girl from this year !

She is much bigger now though!
Happy Birthday !!

Happy Anniversary !!

Today, for our anniversary, I will show you how 13 years don't seem to make a difference -whatsoever- by comparing pictures from 2001 and pictures from 2014.

Here we are, under the rain, on our wedding day.

And here we are today, still under the rain.

Keld gave me lots of kisses back in 2001.

He still does today.

We were very happy in 2001.

We are even more so now.

In 2001, we looked young.

We still do today.

We didn't have a wedding cake so I can't make a picture comparison but every year since, we buy the same cake (chocolate, of course) and here is this year's picture.

 Happy Anniversary to us !!

Fun at School with Kelden

Zack has been missing his siblings and tries to impress me by being a big boy and do things on his own so he can go to school. I think he will be more ready than the others were. It helps, of course, that he is quite familiar with the school and the teachers already. We try to go any time we can and participate in any activity we're invited to attend. The first one is traditionally the Terry Fox walk. As usual, grades 1 and 2 walked around Gillies Lake while the olders walked around Hersey Lake. Gillies Lake was easier for us to go to, so we went with Kelden, who was quite happy to see us.

This year, the school calendar indicated that the franco-ontarian flag celebration was going to be at noon on the 24th (the anniversary date is the 25th but they had cross-country). So instead of the traditional video of my kids singing the song at home, this time you get the whole school (except for at least Julia because it was a Wednesday and she was at piano).

They had another song at the beginning too.

Since it was lunch time we stayed to eat with Kelden.

Last time we had lunch at school we were in Julia's room and they had Caillou on. Zack really liked it but then when they went outside on the playground, he was very jealous. So this time, when they left, I let him play with their cars for a minute and then brought him to the park.

Now, we are going to have fun with Julia and her class as we watch them at the pool. I hope it will encourage Zack who is starting his first lessons this month!
